I sat on this for a few days trying to get to the heart of what the colour orange evoked for me. My mind would immediately go to inky blue with orange shining out of it, and I'm realising now how much my internalised imagery has to do with space lmao. So yeah, orange to me is the sun. It's fire and heat and burning — not as seen from Earth, but closer up, dominating the scene. Fire definitely leans more into orange than red to me for some reason.

So orange makes me think of heat, and something sizzling at the corners until it's all burned away. It makes me think of light in darkness, and change — unwanted or wanted, good and bad, unexpected and pursued. Here's a video of the sun closer up to show what I mean. :) Sooo beautiful.

And here's a fic inspired by 'orange' that got way out of hand, this time for Soundwave and Jazz in Transformers: Prime verse. *finger guns*

Okay, I keep jabbering about this in various conversations, I'm just gonna go ahead and do it okay here we go uhhh I'm going to host a weekly watchparty of the upcoming Transformers show airing on Netflix at the end of July. ^_^ The episodes all drop at once as they are wont to do on Netflix, but I miss the weekly format, so rather than binge-watching it all at once, I'll be watching it weekly, and invite anyone interested to join in. The more the merrier!

Format: A weekly journal post for each episode where anyone who wants to can talk about the show, theories, reactions, etc. in their own time. The aim is to try foster the same excitement and sense of community weekly-airing shows had.
Watching: Part 1: Siege of the upcoming Transformers: War for Cybertron Trilogy. The 6-episode animated series drops on Netflix on 30th July. Here's the trailer and the show on Netflix. It's rumoured to be a return to a darker more mature TF show; the last we had was Transformers: Prime which was hugely popular, so my fingers are crossed that this will be good, too!
Who can participate? This is completely open to both long-term fans and those new to the franchise. You don't need to have watched or read any Transformers to understand this show, as it is a stand-alone. It might be cool for those who are vaguely interested in TF but have no idea where to start since it's so new, and is promised to be a trilogy.

This is just an interest check to see if anyone would be on board, has wanted to get into TF but doesn't know where to start, has any questions, etc. Please let me know! I think this could be really fun if even maybe three or four people would be down to join me ^_^ I initially was going to just liveblog this for myself but then I thought "What if... friends?" so!! Yeah, let me know! :D *rubs hands together* I'm so excited, please someone come be excited about alien robots with me.

I realise 30th July is still a fair bit away, and I might try throw up something for a movie or such in the interim (and I would love after it to continue with some other TF shows if there's any interest in it *coughs* G1 *coughs* TFP) but I wanted to make sure to give people ample warning. Baby steps.

juletide nominations are open; the OTW made a statement about its role in fandom regarding racism; the

wipbigbang is on it's second round of art claims; and

fandomgiftbox is officially live!

More simply general things: I've been enjoying Older by Ben Platt (his vocals are gorgeous), A Better Son/Daughter by Rilo Kiley (which hit me right in the heart), and Bayou by Mountains of the Moon (which not only stabbed me in the heart but also made me think of megop in the process); I've revisited my old inspiration tumblr

moonflours and I think there's a lot of lovely stuff on there; Skill Up's review of The Last of Us 2, unfortunately, lined up almost exactly with my own thoughts on the game (specifically the phrase 'suffering porn'); and this Britney Spears Megamix was fantastic.

The world is frightening right now. A lot of shitty stuff is happening and has been going on for a very long time, and the people in charge keep disappointing us or worse. It's important to let the good into our lives and have some time in the spotlight too, now more than ever. That's what I think, anyway. Sending you all good vibes and hugs. ♥

Prompt 4: Fanwork Recommendations — we invite everyone to share with others the fanfics, fanart, fanvids, cosplays … anything and everything fannish that you love and wish to share!

Aw yis, my favourite type of prompt 8) Here are a few things I have loved recently.

In Defence of Amy and Laurie • Little Women (2019) • Meta (Video Essay)
I love this channel! It has a lot of thoughtful video essays that don't take two hours out of your day. This movie hit me hard (my friend kept laughing at me for gasping and crying too loudly in the cinema) and the book is firmly situated in my childhood, so to see people — especially those who don't hold the same nostalgia for it that I do — appreciate and think critically about the movie makes me happy. Amy is also my favourite character in the film, so meta about her is right up my alley. If you've seen the movie, I'd say this is a worthwhile watch for sure.

The Whole Plate: Film Studies through a Lens of Transformers • Transformers (Bayverse) • Meta (Video Essay)
If you've ever been curious about movies — directing, script-writing, analysis — this is a really good watch. It explores, through the absurdity that was the Michael Bay Transformers adaptations, various film study basics like critical theory, representation, and videography. You don't have to be a fan of Transformers (or have watched all of Bayverse) to appreciate this series. It's educational, and interesting, and also very validating/satisfying if you are a TF fan. Lindsey Ellis is a general recommendation from me because I love her stuff, but this is in particular, I think, is not something to be missed.

I can't even put into words how much I love this art. TFP Megatron and IDW1 Optimus both fit very specifically into a niche Type of mine (giant angry buff idiot) and the idea of them meeting up and going absolutely fucking mental is the funniest thing to me. They would validate and encourage each other's worst habits. They'd be such besties, spreading chaos and carnage all in the name for their vision, I can't even— I love it so goddamn much. It's horrifying and hilarious and tailor-made to my tastes. (This artist's other works are also phenomonal, btw! For example, check out their human!Megatron. *swoons*)

Paragon • Transformers • Fic (MegOP, 7k)
Oh man, this made me feel things. The tension is thick enough to cut with a knife, the characterisation is subtle, the pace controlled, and the writing has such a beautiful melancholy quality. Megatron as an unreliable narrator feeling all the things and trying to convince himself that he has never felt a single feeling in his life is *chefs kiss* Very Good. It's the kind of story that the second I finished reading, I immediately wanted to write fic for it.

These Games We Play • Transformers • Fic (JazzWave, 321k)
It was the characterisation in this that led me from being a fond fan to dedicatedly obsessed with this rarepair. The setting is wholly bleak, and I don't usually read angst of this sort, but I'm so glad I did this time. I recommend this cautiously, because there's a lot here that might frighten people off, but if you are someone who can enjoy the darker themes, wow — you will not find better. It is masterfully written, with so much heart and thought put into the characters and their slow burning relationship (and trust me, it is the most smouldering and delicious of slow burns) that once you've read it once, you never really stop thinking about it. ♥w♥ This story is up there with my all-time favourites ever.

On the Knees of my Heart • A Song of Ice and Fire • Fic (JonAerys, 4.5k)
This self-contained Dany/Jon story from 2012 is very fulfilling for any fans of the ship who feel burned by the finale that will not be discussed further. And for those who don't care, it's a beautifully written melancholy-tinged piece about war, pining, leadership, and integrity. I love the dynamic as it's written here; there's such a distinct atmosphere and flavour to it all.

Every time I make a rec list, I look at all the stories that I want to recommend and am reminded that this is something I'd like to do more often. lol

I finally wrote my first tf story, yay! \o/ I don't know if I'll be able to post for all (or possibly even any more) of the days, but I'm happy I got to finish this at least. ^_^ I never thought I'd end up trying to write a canon continuation fic for a show I haven't watched yet lol. God knows how the characterisation holds up. (But it was something I needed to write for myself, so even if I learn later that it's way off base, I'm fine with that.)

I really started struggling with coming up with ideas that I could write in time - lately everything I try to write that isn't completely impromptu is far too long to write in the span of a few days. :(

I sat down with an idea I was really excited about writing for this prompt (soulmate aus are my shit) and before I knew it the outline - and this is for someone who Does not Outline - for the first chapter was reaching 2k. It's definitely going to be longer than 15k at the rate it's going, and I don't have time to write that, ack! >:(

Day 5: deity/fairy tale

Standing before the Iaconian council, Megatronus makes his case for Primacy. However, he learns swiftly that it is not under the jurisdiction of the council to elect a Prime — they outsource that sort of thing.

As with all but Arisen for the first prompt, this fic is what came about after I sat down and realised the initial idea I had was in no way going to get written in time. (・・；) I hammered it out on the morning before a flight so I had no time to worry about coherency or reception. But it's easier to enjoy writing when one lets go of one's inhibitions, and I really like what I ended up coming up with. ♡ (I think I'll write a sequel/continuation next to expand on it, actually!)

The most wonderful thing about events such as these are at the end, there are so many fanworks to go through at your own pace and enjoy. So many new megop fics for me to get stuck into... *u* I am extremely excited. Hopefully I'll have time later this month for it. Huhuhu~

Last but not least, one more time, happy MegOP week! Thank you endlessly to the mods, creators, and readers who were involved. And, of course, great love to the two sad lovestruck fools we congregated to celebrate. ;) I had a wonderful time and I love this ship and fandom so much.

Day 2: Rec at least three fanworks that you didn’t create.

My favourite thing to do! I love receiving recs and I love giving recs, so I'm really excited for today's prompt. I don't read as much as I used to, but the vast majority of what I do have time to read I end up falling head over heels for. ☆ This list is by no means exhaustive, but most of the fanworks I consume are fanfics, so that's what I'll be listing.

my hero academia

upon my back by itsclowreedsfault [todobaku, 7k, g] i think about this story so much. i love the concept and the execution, so many scenes stick vividly in my head, and i constantly find myself daydreaming up spin-off fics i'd love to write bc it's such an interesting universe w such gorgeous characterisation
silver lining by itsclowreedsfault [todobaku, 11k, e] i have such a soft spot for this fic. i love wings, i love mythical creatures, i love forbidden love — it ticks all of my boxes, is gorgeously written, and also helped me grow the courage to post my own todobaku fic.
rule 02: stay by bonnia [todobaku, 24k, m] the most satisfying fantasy au todobaku you could wish for, with a slowburn romance and fluff and drama and a very satisfying ending. all of bonnia's works are wonderful but so far this is my favourite!
you know where to find me by raefill [todobaku, 20k+, e] it's a rare day i read incomplete works but the characterisation in this story had me captivated from the beginning. i love the relationship exploration and the romantic moments between the two characters, every chapter makes my heart squeeze!

haikyuu

in defense of reptiles (and other gross things) by rikke [iwaoi, 9k, t] this story truly speaks for itself in how creative, fun, intriguing, and well written it is. it's a roller-coaster from start to finish and keeps you hooked. i love the creative use of footnotes, i love the harry potter references, i adore the characterisation — i truly can't say enough praise for this fic! it's so so fun.
shiver by yuu_chi [iwaoi, 17k, t] i don't read for hq anymore but i can't make a rec list without including this story. it got me into writing for hq, helped me fall for iwaoi, and is overall so dear to my heart. it's a very sweet and touching love story about friendship and growing up.

game of thrones

on the knees of my heart by thefairflemming [jonerys, 4k, m] this was my first jonerys and is very dear to my heart. i think it's written beautifully, and satisfied my thirst for my tiny crackship until (miraculously) the tv show fulfilled my heart's wish.
dream until your dreams come true by crossingwinter [gendrya, 46k, e] a creative, classic soulmate au with mystery, comedy, romance, and some serious drama that keeps you hooked and invested, with the most satisfying payoff, god. this fic is a gift.

misc

star wars: double agent vader series by fialleril [vader gen, 90k+, t] this is my favourite star wars fic. ever. the writing is really beautiful, with lots of lore interwoven with canon, the characterisation is beyond intriguing, and i'm so so invested. if you have ever wanted to know what would happen if darth vader was an antihero, this is your fix.
transformers: victory condition by astolat [megatron/optimus, 33k, e] i'm very new to transformers, but this fic was enough to convince me to get into it immediately. the writing is gorgeous, the robots are giant, and the characterisation is to die for.
bigbang: the great pretender by ruinwyn [gtop, 52k, e] truthfully i could rec all of ruinwyn's writing if you like gtop bc it was so hard for me to choose a favourite. i went for this one bc it's a delicious pining fic with all of the hurt/comfort and fluff you could want.
harry potter: the archive i read and bookmarked works on (dramione.org) is down and i don't know when it will be back up, but i couldn't make a rec list without including the works of everythursday, perhaps beginning with the fallout [dramione, 300k, e].
